PANik -made in wien

“Take the paper with you; read it, leave it in the metro station. Make it dirty, rip it, throw it in the street, take it home, leave it where it is now, take one or more copies, distribute elsewhere, move it in space, drop in your local store, use it for writing, bend it, cut it, cut it out, push it in, burn it, smoke it, eat it, rub it, caress it, talk about it, make one yourself, weigh it, weigh it again, do nothing… Endless possibilities which you are welcome to devour… now!”

CONCEPT

METRO RIDE in Vienna is associated for most people with reading newspapers such as Heute and Österreich. It is indispensable motive for travelers around the capital. The number of readers is overwhelming, the amount of newspapers given out everyday is crushing. During our first edition of our PANik newspaper in 2013, we realized how quickly people respond to this format; they are used to it, very familiar and therefore comfortable with it. As long as they know what it is, they don’t hesitate to reach for it. PANik/Heft 1, because of the similar format, brought immediately their attention but raised up their curiosity and surprise in the moment of handing the paper. The existence of this action/performance in public space is crucial and necessary. The suspense and vitality it brought the first time can be repeated and enriched. We would like to give another shot of alternative and active reading, holding, reacting, perceiving to the Vienna travelers on a longer term. Reactions to PANik/Heft 1 were very encouraging. People were not only interested but as well, active in reading and perceiving the new proposition.
